In
this region, the Mayabeque river, flowing from the northwest of
the town of Güines, manages to traverse the plains towards
the littoral marshlands. The waters absorbed by the soil conform
the so-called Cuenca Sur (southern deep valley), a zone that contributes
to agricultural development of the region, the most productive of
the country.
From the point of view of the flora and natural vegetation, the
region has a significant presence of man. In the littoral marshlands
of the southern coast, there are well-preserved mangrove-tree communities.
